To vote at local and regional elections in Denmark, you must
- be at least 18 years old and
- have a permanent address in the municipality/region
You must also either:
- be a Danish citizen
- be a citizen of one of the other EU countries
- be a citizen of Iceland, Norway or Great Britain, or
- have lived in Denmark, Greenland or the Faroe Islands continuously for the last four years.
Persons who are entitled to vote at local and regional elections will automatically be included in the electoral register.

Danish expatriates
To vote at local and regional elections, you must have a permanent address in a Danish municipality/region. Danish expatriates are therefore not entitled to vote in local and regional elections.

You can vote at your designated polling station on election day, which is Tuesday 18 November 2025, at 8:00-20:00. See your polling station on the poll card, which will be sent to you.
Advance voting begins on Tuesday 7 October 2025 and ends on Friday 14 November.

You will receive your poll card no later than five days prior to election day, that is, on Thursday 13 November 2025.
You will only receive one poll card, even if you are entitled to vote at both the local and regional elections.
On election day, you must present you poll card at the polling station. Here you will be given two ballot papers, one for the local election and one for the regional election.
If you have forgotten to bring your poll card, the staff at the polling station can help you print a new one. You will be asked to provide some form of identification (e.g. driving licence, passport or health insurance card).
If you have not received your poll card five days prior to election day, or the poll card contains incorrect information, please contact the municipality (borgerservice) in Aabenraa at +45 2138 1858 or +45 2138 0578.

You can vote in advance at the citizen services centres (borgerservice) in Aabenraa and Bov. To avoid queues, you should make an appointment.
You do not have to make an appointment to vote in advance at the local citizen services centre (borgerservice). See opening hours at the citizen services centres.
The citizen services centre (borgerservice) in Aabenraa will be open beyond regular hours on:
- Saturday 1 November at 10:00-12:00
- Saturday 8 November at 10:00-12:00
- Friday 14 November at 9:00-16:00
On the above dates, the citizen services centre (borgerservice) in Aabenraa and Bov will be open for advance voting only.
Libraries
You can vote in advance at the libraries in Bov, Rødekro, Tinglev and Aabenraa during staffed hours.
Voters who on account of illness or disability are unable to come to the polling station on election day can apply for home voting.
You can apply for home voting from Tuesday 21 October 2025.
The deadline for applications is Wednesday 12 November 2025 at 12:00.

You can vote in advance at any Danish embassy or consulate abroad beginning on Tuesday 19 August 2025.
Members of the Danish Defence stationed abroad can vote in advance via the Danish Defence.
Persons employed or travelling on Danish ships abroad and persons employed on Danish offshore installations can vote in advance on the ship or installation.
Voters with a permanent address in Denmark visiting the Faroe Islands or Greenland can vote in advance at national registration offices on the Faroe Islands or in Greenland.
Voters who are temporarily abroad (e.g. on holiday, study or business) can vote in advance at any Danish embassy or consulate.
Always remember to bring some form of identification. Voters are encouraged to vote early to make sure their vote is counted. If your vote does not arrive by 8:00 on election day, it will not be counted.
Aids - advance voting
All advance voting locations in Aabenraa Municipality will have a black felt-tip pen, stand magnifier and LED lamp, which you may use.
The citizen services centre in Aabenraa also has a height adjustable table and magnifier with a CCTV screen.

Changing polling stations
Voters with a disability or reduced mobility who wish to use the aids available in Sønderjyllandshallen can apply for a change of polling stations and ask to use Sønderjyllandshallen instead of the polling station designation on their poll card.
You apply for a change of polling stations from Tuesday 21 October 2025.
The deadline for applications is Monday 10 November 2025 at 12:00.

Any voter may complain of the elections
Complaints about the local election must be submitted in writing to the Town Council no later than seven days after election day, that is, on Tuesday 25 November 2025.
Complaints are decided at a Town Council meeting to be held as soon as possible after expiry of the deadline for filing a complaint.
Any voter may refer the Town Council’s decision to the Minister of the Interior and Health no later than two weeks after the complainant has been informed of the Council’s decision.
Complaints about the regional election must be submitted to the Regional Council and are subject to the same deadlines as complaints about are local election.
The following rules apply to collections at polling stations in Aabenraa Municipality.
Applications may be sent to valg@aabenraa.dk
- Applications for collections must be submitted no later than seven days before election day, that is, on Tuesday 11 November 2025 at 12:00.
- Only no-profit collections are accepted.
- Collections must be held outside the polling station and cannot disturb the election in any way or address voters directly.
- Collections must comply with the Danish Fundraising Act. Applicants must apply for permission from the Danish Fundraising Board, where relevant, and make sure that the collection meets any requirements set out in the permit.
- The association or organisation submitting the application cannot be actively involved in election-related campaigns or public debates held prior to election day.
